A Reading Bible
Start by finding a reading Bible. Any Bible you have around your house is good for reading. I found that it was easier to focus on my reading when there weren't any notes references, or my own written comments. Large or Giant Print Bibles (Compact Size) make great reading Bibles. The larger text and single column make it easier to read.

Which Translation Is the Best?
"The translation you read is the best translation" -unknown Any Bible in English is a translation from the original Greek and Hebrew, and ALL Bibles are interpretive. A Bible translation team can translate the text word for word, or thought for thought. This is a chart I made up from a presentation given by Dr. Bill Mounce, chair of the ESV translation team.

Daily Walk Bible Reading Magazine
If you're new to reading through your Bible in a year, try the Daily Walk Magazine. One subscription includes 12 monthly issues for a year. At the start of each book there is a paragraph summarizing the book, and a chart showing a basic outline, topics, places and timeline. As you read through each day, there is an overview of the passage you're reading, and a brief devotional story. I loved using this for my reading time because I was always excited to get the next issue in the mail, and it helped me understand each passage. Click the link below for a sample.
