Why Memorize? I Have a Smart Phone!
Isn't the point of memorizing scripture so that you "have it with you," at all times? Yes, and No! Having it with you at all times is great and all, but it's the work that God does on your heart as you really think about His words, that makes memorizing scripture valuable. I learned as much from memorizing verses in college as I did from the Bible classes themselves. God brings scripture to our minds as we live life, in a way that can't be done when you've only read the Bible. Think about that...
Not Enough Time?
Add a scripture card to your wallet or purse that you can look at and memorize during "waiting" times. Waiting for your kids' gymnastics class to be over, waiting in line at the grocery store or waiting for your coffee at your favorite coffee place. I had a few doubts about this method, but I memorized the entire book of James over the course of 5 years almost completely during "waiting" times. And this was while going to college full time, and working. Instead of having an index card, I printed off an entire chapter on one page of paper and kept it folded in my wallet. It's not that much when you realize that one chapter a year is about one verse every two weeks. And one chapter takes about 2-3 minutes to recite. When I look at it that way, I wonder why I haven't memorized more.

Scripture Memory System
The Scripture Memory System is by far my favorite way of studying individual verses from the Bible. It's perfect for using with your kids too! Instead of explaining how to do it here, check it out at SimplyCharlotteMason.com. They have a wonderful tutorial and video to watch too.

Scripture Typer: Bible Memory System
There are several apps for memorizing scripture. This is my favorite, as you can see from all of the different features. An account is free for computers, the app is not. My favorite part of this particular app is that you don't have to type in the verses. You input your verse and it downloads it from the internet.
If you're not excited about the technology side of this app, note that after you've entered your Bible verses, you can print cards of just your memory verses, from their printable card button, that saves a lot of time!
The Android version of this app is still in process.
